Teeny-Tiny

I've been doing some knitting recently and I'm so proud to say I finished my first piece of work since I first started learning about 20 years ago. It's been a long road, but I finally have something to show for it. I'm experimenting with different kinds of yarn- figuring out what I like. I'm learning all sorts of stuff like gauge and blocking. I don't have a model for these hats yet, so they are waiting patiently. Right now, I'm very concerned that the white one is way too tiny. But my friend Brittney assures me that newborns really are that small. We will see.

Sharpening Arrows

Today our pastor preached a special Father's Day sermon from Deuteronomy chapter 6, including verses six and seven, which you can find on the sidebar of the blog. But he pointed out something I never knew: there is a Hebrew word in verse 7 which is translated there as, "teach diligently." In other passages of the bibles it is translated as "sharpen" or "whet" (as on a whetstone). What a great word picture God gave us to describe the duties of a godly parent: to sharpen in order to prepare for service. For what service? The service of the Lord, the King of glory. What should we use as our whetstone? The Lord's commandments. How much time will it take? Deuteronomy says that we need to do it "when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up." I thank God every day for the two godly fathers, my Dad and Ev's Dad, who took the time to sharpen their children- to teach diligently the commandments of the Lord. I thank God that my children have a father who has the same heart and dedication. Happy Father's Day!

Beachin' It

*Sigh* Finally! My first post from my new phone. It only took me an hour or so to figure out. Anyways. We've been enjoying a change of pace and a change of scenery. We said "goodbye" to 109 degrees and "Hello!" to 69 degrees. The boys are getting re-acquainted with the ocean, and I've been getting cozy with my knitting. School is out, and vacation is in. We'll be home soon, but in the meantime, we're saying, "Thank you, Lord, for the beach!"

Roll It Up

Here's the other half of my knitting/sewing project. I needed a place to store all those needles when they're not busy furiously knitting. I fashioned this after my mom's needle bag from the 60's, except mine is out of another gorgeous batik, instead of some sort of pleather. What can you say? It was the sixties. Anyways, it was very simple. Two pockets for two heights of needles. A flap to keep them from sliding out the top, and a pretty little ribbon to tie it all up. Now, about all that furious knitting...

Small Successes

Well, folks, this is all I have to show for garden success this summer. At least I sunk less money into it this time- I'm learning. Out of three Dahlia tubers, all three came up, but only one has survived long enough to bloom. Thanks for persevering, Little Blossom. We enjoyed having you visit for a while!
