Welcoming...
Miles Everett... born May 14th at 7:01am.
He weighed in at a whopping 8 pounds 4 ounces!! He is a sweetheart, and we are all enchanted. He has the most expressive face and already generously gives out many little smiles a day. God has sent us a precious gift! Thank you so much to my parents who were here to help with the big kids and hold down the fort while I was in the hospital. We couldn't have done it without your help! Thank you so much to our church family who has already gathered around us in support! We thank the Lord for your fellowship and love! I will try to be back on regularly to post pictures, but this week will be a little crazy so check back with us in a few days. We're still adjusting!

O-N-E
This is turning into birthday season for our family! Two birthdays within a couple of weeks should keep us pretty busy with the celebrating. I honestly can't believe that my baby girl has turned one! It doesn't seem like it's been a whole year since she was born, but I can hardly remember what life was like without her here.
I picked out some of her favorite foods for dinner and made an Angel Food Cake for my little angel. She loved the menu and the party blowers!
We forgot to practice blowing out the candle, so she wasn't quite sure what to do with it. But she loved all the singing!
She looked like she was going to dig right into her piece of cake, but I think she filled up on too much birthday dinner because she had trouble finishing her piece. She thoroughly enjoyed the leftovers the next day, though!
I thought for sure that Fiona the Destructive would be perfect at unwrapping presents. Go figure- that night she wasn't very interested in ripping paper. She loved what was hiding inside all that pretty paper!
We're so thankful to have Fiona in our lives and in our family! She is a joy and a treasure!

E-I-G-H-T
Hallllllooooooo out there!! Is anyone out there still checking my sad, lonely little blog?? You can't imagine all the things that have been vying for my time and attention these last few months. I know, it's a poor excuse for not throwing a few pictures up every once in a while. But you know, sometimes something has to give. I have so much I want to share about what we've been doing. I think I will start with our latest celebration. I can't believe it, but my biggest little one just turned eight! It seems impossible. Trevor got to have two parties- the second one on Halloween with knights and fairies as guests. And for desert: pumpkin pie! Don't you just love how we smash a whole bunch of holidays into one day?!
Trevor is such a patient, loving big brother (most of the time)! These pictures show how much he has matured over the past year, as he let his brother and sister help with his gifts. He's also a great helper around the house with chores and watching out for his younger siblings! I am amazed to watch him grow and change. It is hard to remember when he wasn't so big and mature, and yet it feels like yesterday that he was just a little toddler. Happy Birthday to my little man!

rejoicing
Several months ago, Braden started asking about being a Christian. He talked about it to his teacher in Sunday School, he mentioned it to me at home. When Everett sat down with him to talk about it some more, he didn't seem to understand what it was really about. So we set the topic aside for a while. Every so often the subject would come up again, in passing, and we could tell it was on his mind. A few weeks ago, he told us that he wanted to be a Christian. So Everett talked with him again.
They talked about how we cannot live up to God's standard of perfection. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
He explained the Bible's plan for saving us from the penalty of sin, which is eternal death and separation from God. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
What can we do to deserve earn or deserve this gift? Nothing! Titus 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us
How did he save us? John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 1 Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit
So now what? Romans 10:9 If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Braden said that he understood and that he believed, so he prayed and he did! Amen and praise the Lord! We're so thankful to God for this blessing. We have prayed for each of our children, from birth, that he (or she) would put their trust in Jesus Christ at a young age. We prayed that his faith would grow, just as he grows, and that he would be used by God to do great and mighty things for the kingdom of God. Praise God, we know that God is already working in Braden's heart and can already see evidence of his growth in God as he has become more sensitive to his sins and more teachable when he is corrected. As the Bible says in Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
We know there is rejoicing in heaven when even one sinner repents, and we are rejoicing here too!

Rosebuds
I knitted this hat for a dear little girl who just turned five and has an affinity for hats. It won't see much cold weather until they move next year, but I have it on good authority that it coordinated well with her sundress this morning.

Potato Printing
I've been wondering where my time is going, when actually, we've been really busy doing fun stuff. So this week is hereby designated as Craft Week, and I will spend it sharing the things we've been making. First stop: potato prints.
These are standard kids art fare., but I don't ever remember making them. I can see why it's so popular, because they are super fun and easy. I also think it's a great way to get the kids practicing with color and design without worrying too much about drawing shapes or naturalistic representation.

This time, we went the simple route. Just slice off the end of a potato- ours were covered with "eyes" but it doesn't matter for this. We used washable tempera paint, but you could use whatever you have on hand. Pool some paint on a paper plate, dip the sliced potato into the paint and blot off the excess. Press onto art paper, and voila! Repeat!

They really did have a great time trying out different color combinations and making texture with different amounts of paint. While they were working, I was working as well. I bought some little tee shirts for Fiona to wear to bed. (Regular PJs don't fit over her fatty cloth nighttime diapers.) I love the Under the Nile brand because they are so soft and well made- they last forever. Even after two boys, their clothes still look great. The fact that they are organic is a bonus in my book.
For the first one, I cut and shaped a slice for the petals and a slice for the center of the flowers. The second one is just a slice, au natural, like the boys used. I think I like that better. It's very simple and organic. Of course, Baby Girl looks adorable in either one!

Times A-Changin'
I got a little caught up in my UK pictures. I've also been busy on a bunch of projects that I will share over the next few posts. But I realize that it has been a little while since you've seen pics of the little squish. She's still squishy, but she's not so little. Her newest role around here is as the local King Kong.
"I will destroy your puny, miserable train track! And then I will eat this bridge!"

The repair crews hurried out to replace the bridge so that train traffic could get in and out and around the city. But the giant attacked relentlessly.

And this is only the beginning of the story.

Sick Days
I kept thinking how amazing it was that we hadn't had anyone get sick in a long time. I guess I jinxed it because yesterday both boys were sick. I'd like to tell you that we spent the day cuddled up on the couch enjoying some down time and reading classic children's literature. But I can't do that. Instead, they enjoyed a rare day of back-to-back movies. Wait- does it count if they were movies of classic children's literature? While they vegged, I ran around trying to decontaminate the house. All the moments like this from the past few days went from sweet to germy.

I spent the day doing mountains of laundry and washing my hands every minute, hoping that no one else gets whatever-it-was. Fiona spent the day as far from the contamination zone as I could keep her. It made me thankful for days like today when I make forward progress. I can't wait to show you some of the progress I've made today, as well as the progress Fiona has been making over the past few weeks. So exciting!

DINO-mite Party
Every once in a while, we have a special birthday party complete with invitations, special decorations and games. This was Braden's turn. I had a great time making the invitations, planning all the dinosaur games (pin the tooth on the dino, dinosaur egg relay race, dinosaur bone drop and more) and thinking up fun decorations. The kids were all 4 or 5 years old- which is such a great age for a theme like this, which takes a little imagination. They were so enthusiastic about the Milk Bone "dinosaur bones" and the first thing they each said at the door was, "did you know we saw dinosaur footprints on the sidewalk??!"

One activity didn't quite work out the way I planned. The pint-sized palaeontologists were having a little trouble with their pint-sized tools, so we had to call in the big guns.

Happily, the cupcakes were a huge success, especially the fondant dinos on top. I know, I swore off fondant after Trevor's 5th birthday. But it was so much easier this time....maybe because I wasn't trying to cover a ridiculously gigantic medieval castle. But I digress. I found a tutorial for these little guys, and they were actually fun to make- although I'm still glad I only had to make six.

They were a surprise to Braden, and he loved them. His smile is all the thanks I need!

Splash Zone
Spring is here, but it feels more like summer. Don't get me wrong, we've had a few nice days, but they are quickly disappearing. Several weeks ago the boys thought it would be warm enough to swim, so they did. Crazy boys!

I thought they would hop in and hop out and that would be the end of it. But, no, it just made them more excited to swim more often. The truth is, it really isn't that warm, but okay.

As for me, this is exactly as far as I'm getting in until the water warms up a lot more.

Antics

Fiona is getting so much more interactive, I started getting out the baby toys. I didn't know that she'd have to take turns. Christmas could have been so much less expensive ...

Wrapping Up Christmas
I'm still getting accustomed to it being just the 5 of us at Christmas time. I'm used to lots of people, lots of activity and lots of food. Well, the food we had. Like I said, I'm used to there being lots of people, so I still bake for lots of people. Other than that, Christmas is pretty much like I remember it from childhood: opening stockings in our jammies...looking for our Christmas orange, even though we have no intention of eating it.

Then it's on to Christmas breakfast, and the previously mentioned copious amounts of baked items. This year, we decided to read the Christmas story before we opened any presents from under the tree. Even though we talked about it all during December (and all year round) Everett and I wanted to remind the kids that Christmas isn't about just getting presents. Still, Christmas does bring presents, and we had a great time seeing each other open and enjoy them.

After all the other presents were opened, Daddy and Braden used Braden's new walkie-talkies to radio an urgent message to Trevor. "Trevor, come out to the garage!"
